6 arrested at illegal fundraiser

DAYTON (WDTN) - Six people were arrested Saturday night after police raided a fundraiser at a Dayton union hall.

"We received information of possible gambling violations," said Lt. Donald Burder. "The search warrant was prepared and we executed it sometime around 11 o'clock. Once inside we detained a large number of people and several people were arrested for various alcohol and gambling related charges".

The fundraiser at the IUE CWA union hall on Woodman Drive, was to raise money for Niko Boscarino's legal fees.

Boscarino, a trained MMA fighter, was arrested last summer after police said he beat up two officers near Taggart's Pub.

On Saturday, Boscarino's father, Thomas Boscarino, sister, Demitria Boscarino, Jay Bakshi, Kenneth Wise, Christina Silvati, and Ryan Hilgeman were all arrested.

Investigators said they did not have proper permitting to sell liquor or gamble.

The only way gambling fundraisers are legal in Ohio, is if they are for 501C-3 charitable organizations that are registered with the state.
