2 nurses plead guilty in teen's death

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Two nurses pled guilty Sept. 14, 2012 in connection to the death of a 14-year-old.

Mary Kilby, 64, of Miamisburg, and Kathryn Williams, 43, of Englewood entered pleas and each were found guilty as charged of two felony counts of failing to provide for a functionally impaired person.

The two were caregivers for Makayla Norman, who was taken to Children’s Medical Center on March 1, 2011, where she was pronounced dead. Norman suffered from cerebral palsy with severe mental and physical disabilities. She weighed just 28 pounds at the time of her death.

“The victim in this case, 14-year-old Makayla Norman, was unable to care for herself and was totally dependent upon others to provide for her well being and ensure her health and safety," Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. said. "These two nurses were supposed to be there for her, and instead they completely ignored and failed to address the deplorable conditions this child endured.”

Kilby and Williams are scheduled to be sentenced on October 24, 2012.

The girl’s mother, Angela Norman, pled guilty and was sentenced to nine years in the penitentiary.

A fourth defendant, Mollie Parsons, is set for trial on November 5, 2012.
