DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dwayne Shannon came home Tuesday night  to find firefighters and police surrounding 29 East Mumma Avenue.

He says his mother, 84-year-old Artie Housley was found dead in the kitchen.

"We don't know there was a fire in the kitchen.  We don't know," says Shannon.

Robert Green has lived next door to Housley for 11 years, he says neighbors called firefighters just after 4 Tuesday afternoon.

"Flames was coming all out the window," explains Green.

Housley's son says he doesn't know if she was trying to cook something but she has been blind all her life.

He says she's lived in the home for more than 50 years.

"You wouldn't have time to put in everything that I could remember about my mother.  She was a wonderful person and everyone that knew her thought so too.  I'm sure.  She used to be pretty active in the community," comments Shannon.

And neighbors say she will be missed.

"I was really sad. She has two sons who really love her.  I feel sorry for them.  All I can say is God Bless the family," says Green.

Investigators have not released a cause of the fire.
