TIPP CITY, Ohio (WDTN) - Everyone was trying their best to stay cool in Tipp City for the annual Jim Mohr Memorial Baseball Tournament. Hundreds of people packed Kyle Park for the 3-day event.
"What we want to do is make sure that this is a great, enjoyable time for the kids and their family but also do all the safety precautions that we can. A couple of our establishments here in town provide us with water and drinks and also food. But, we're also having some misters," says tournament organizer Charles Taylor.
Even though, players came prepared, the heat is still getting to some.
"I had a good night's sleep and stayed in the AC. My brother, he's already gotten like headaches from it and it's so hot, it's just hard to play. I've already drank like three bottles of water in the last game," says baseball player Dawson Vandervort.
Umpires are trying their best to stay cool too.
19:36:16 Just drinking a lot of water and using our towels. On break, we went and got a lot of ice. Just trying to keep cool as best I can and stay in the shade. But, I don't know, it's really hot out though. It's tough," comments umpire Josh Wampler.
The extreme heat is even taking it's toll on those sitting and watching the games.
"Plenty of wet rags around the neck, lots and lots of water, umbrellas, just anything to keep cool," says Nikki Sarver.
The tournament championships take place Sunday.
