TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - A 20-year-old Piqua man has been charged with committing rape against a 5-year-old child and is being held on a $1 million bond at the Miami County Jail.
Jeremiah Devlin of Piqua made his initial appearance in Miami County Municipal Court on Friday morning for one count of rape, a first-degree felony that carries a specification that the child was under the age of 13.
An Oct. 18 preliminary hearing is scheduled for Devlin.
Devlin was arrested Thursday night by the Piqua Police Department after the victim, a boy, spoke of the alleged sexual abuse with his mother, who contacted the police, said Deputy Chief Tom Steiner.
Steiner said the rape allegedly occurred "two to three weeks ago" at a city residence.
According to the police department, the child did not suffer physical injury as a result of the sexual assault.
The suspect is known to the victim and the victim's family, Steiner added.
