TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - A Miami County sheriff's deputy who was initially a no show in court Wednesday morning has made a written plea in Miami County court.
Douglas Byers, 43, never showed up for court this morning on a DUI charge. He has since entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
Investigators say a 911 caller alerted officers to a drunk driver on US Route 36 in early September.
Officers reached speeds of 85 mph to catch up with Byers' SUV.
The arresting officer's radio caught Byers on tape claiming he had five beers.
Investigators say Byers refused a sobriety test, but officers arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving.
Byers is on paid administrative leave. A pre-trial hearing will be set.
