TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - A public visitation was held Sunday for a Troy soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Private First Class Jeffrey Rice, 24, died July 19 while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

The soldier's body was brought back to his hometown Saturday.

Rice was a 2007 graduate of Troy High School and the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School.

On Sunday, countless people arrived at Baird Funeral home in Troy and paid their respects to the fallen soldier.

"I know Jeff's mother and his father and I'm very devastated by their loss and our community's loss," said Jeff Welbaum, who lives in Troy.  "Troy is a very close knit community.  We look out for one another."

Funeral services will be held at  Baird Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30.
