Teen backyard brawl caught on tape

PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) - A backyard brawl between two 13-year-old girls was caught on tape in Piqua, Ohio.

In the video shot by a witness, you can see adults standing around and watching as some of them encouraged the two teens to continue fighting.

It happened in the backyard of a home on Beverly Drive. The mother of one of the teens turned to 2 NEWS after finding the home video of her daughter getting beaten-up circulating on YouTube and Facebook.

In the video, you can see the two teens rolling around on the ground. One of the girls is sitting on top of the other, pinning her to the ground as she pulls her hair and punches her repeatedly on her face.

In the background you can hear adults and children cheering and goading the girls to fight.

The victim's mother, Kim Burt said the fight started over a pair of shorts the victim borrowed last year. She said she was disgusted to see how far the girls had taken it, and horrified to see adults standing by and watching it happen.

"These parents, and grandparents are encouraging this fight," said Burt.

Friends of the two girls, both of whom attended Piqua Junior High, could also be seen and heard as they cheered on the fight.

"I see her pulling her hair, punching her in the face. Just totally mauling her," said Burt.

At one point in the video, you see an adult step into the picture. She appeared to be yelling at the victim who was still on the ground. Then surprisingly, she told her daughter to get back in the fight.

"Re-fight, re-fight;" yelled the woman in the video.

Another person could be heard yelling "Round 2, Round 2, Round 2", and another one yelled, "Get back in the ring."

Burt questioned what type of parents would encourage kids to be violent.

"I am in disbelief and shock. What are they teaching their daughter and the rest of kids. That its okay to fight?" said Burt.

Piqua Police said they just got a copy of the video and planned to review it and question all of the people involved this week.
