HUNTSVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - The body of a Columbus man has been recovered from Indian Lake.
Jeremy R. Kingray, 29, and another man were in a canoe Sunday afternoon when it swamped and capsized, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The other man was able to swim safely to shore, but Kingray never resurfaced. He was found after a search and then transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said neither man was wearing a life jacket and that no life jackets were found in the canoe when the incident occurred.
It is believed the 14½-foot canoe capsized due to high winds and wave action.
The incident is Ohio’s first recreational boating-related fatality of the year.
