LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) - A day of fun ended tragically for a group of friends at Indian Lake.

A group of five was boating near the open-ski zone in the lake, when one of them decided to go for a swim, and never re-surfaced.

After more than 6 hours of searching, search crews found the body of 38-year old Danette Hicks in the water.

Friends told dispatchers that she disappeared in the water shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

Witnesses said she was not wearing a life jacket when she voluntarily climbed off the boat, then disappeared.  She had also been drinking alcohol.

Brett Trump, a supervisor with the Ohio Division of Watercraft wanted to remind all boaters that consuming alcohol while boating could prove to be a deadly mix.  He also wanted to remind you to wear life jackets while on board.

"Life jackets do save lives, but not if you don't use them," said Trump.
