FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Police are investigating the killing of a Fairborn man, who family members describe as a good student.
They received multiple calls reporting gunshots in the area off Woodvine Street at Funderburg Road in Fairborn just after midnight Monday.
When they arrived, the found 22-year-old Jerelle Prather, who according to family was taking classes at Wright State, on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Investigators told 2 NEWS the shots were fired in a second story apartment unit, and some time after Prather was shot, police said he either jumped or fell out of the second story window.
He was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said at this point, they do not have a definitive suspect.
Family members think Prather knew his killer because he had to have let him in downstairs.
"Sometimes whoever you think is your friend isn't always your friend," says Prather's aunt, Rosetta Reed. "You have to be careful of everybody in this day and age."
