FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Nearly one in five children in Greene County is considered impoverished.

An alliance of volunteers worked Friday to give families a little extra help.

One by one, volunteers gave essential items to those in need as part of a Feed the Children distribution program.

"They'll get a case of water, the black box which contains the food, random food items and the red box contains hygiene products, toothpaste, toilet paper, books for the children, things like that," said Thomas Schein, Teleperformance.

400 families were helped at Community Park East in Fairborn.

"Some of them are our own customers, some of them are from other agencies. We talk with the folks in the community that we work with and that we know they're in need and they are identified that way," said John Bennett, Community Action Partnership.

The boxes are designed to help a family of four for one week.

The Teleperformance company was also part of the event.

In addition to donating food and other items, a recruiter held a job fair.

"They're looking to hire some folks for their company which is great for folks that are looking for a job."

"This will be one of the many we usually try to do two or three a year, so we'll have another one later on this year."
