USAF launches consolidation plan

FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - After months of planning, the Air Force is launching its plan to save taxpayers' money.

Plans were announced in December 2011 to consolidate a dozen Materiel Command Centers down to just five.

The first of those new centers will open at Wright Patterson Air Force Base on July 9.

A spokesperson talked to the media Tuesday afternoon about what the changes mean for our area.

"You can imagine, we get a little excited about the possibilities and having them managed in a single center because that affords us opportunities to be more efficient and smarter and integrate better between platforms and control systems all together," said Col. Arthur Huber, WPAFB.

It's expected to save $100-million and will be complete by mid-2013.
