FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - A portion of Ohio 444 between Dayton-Yellow Springs Road and Dayton Drive will close permanently October 9, 2012.

Fairborn city leaders said the change is in an effort to increase security at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

"Whatever issues develop, we will be addressing those issues accordingly, so its going to be a matter of time where we talk about those solutions and funding for those solutions and then of course construction of whatever solutions come to light," said Jim Sawyer, Fairborn City Engineer.

Traffic will be re-routed to Kauffman Drive.  Construction is set to begin in the next several days.

City leaders are hopeful the detour will actually help spur economic growth downtown.
