XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) - Pit bull owners in Xenia are getting a check in the mail.
A city ordinance requires that residents who own dogs that are deemed vicious, pay a $30.00 fee and register with police.
But, the State of Ohio just took pit bulls off the vicious animal list.
Xenia's city council has now voted to pay back those fees as a result.
"When the state law changed, the city council felt that we should rebate back to those folks that registered their dogs on a pro-rated basis after the state law went into effect," said Jim Percival, Xenia City Manager.
The city manager says about 50 people will receive a refund that should arrive in the next couple of weeks.
