FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Unless you we're looking for it you'd never it was there. It's a major distribution center for the National American Red Cross tucked away at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The massive 20,000 square foot center is one of ten supply centers across the nation that's primarily for disaster victims of the Midwest, but can be thrust into action for any emergency.

"Should a disaster elevate to a much larger event such as Katrina or as were talking about Sandy, then we draw upon the resources of this particular facility," explained David Fleming, Disaster Committee Chairman.

The site, which is donated space from the Air force, is full of items needed for any disaster at any time.

When Katrina hit, the Disaster Field Supply Center shipped as many as 20 truck loads of supplies each day for three days straight.

John Good, Red Cross volunteer responsible for loading supplies and getting them out the door said from the initial call for supplies to delivery to a disaster area takes less than 24 hours.
