XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) - With many residents spending time sitting next to a recreational fire during the fall season, Xenia city officials issued a reminder of fire safety rules on Monday.
Residents may have recreational fires but the only material that can be burned is clean, dry wood. Yard waste or rubbish materials may not be burned at any time, according to the city's fire department.
For fires in a fireplace or barbecue pit, the flames must be at least 15 feet from a home, wood fence, or garage. Open fires must be at least 25 feet from a structure.
The fire must be attended to constantly and must be extinguished if it is not attended, added Xenia firefighters.
