FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - It's not a done deal just yet, but Fairborn officials said it's just a matter of time until a stretch of 444 will be rerouted to allow better base security.
The proposal calls for re-routing traffic on 444 onto Dayton Yellow Springs Road, onto Kauffman Avenue to Central, and then back to 444 via Dayton Drive into downtown Fairborn. Fairborn officials told 2 News its a win for the city because it will pull more traffic toward downtown businesses.
The reason the Air Force gave for upgrading "vulnerable" Wright-Patt gates that do not meet federal requirements. No one from the base would comment.
If approved, ODOT will post signs about the coming changes as they begin to give Wright Patt a bit of a face lift.
