FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Thousands people will be lacing up their running shoes this weekend for the annual Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Marathon.
This year marks the 16th anniversary of the marathon.
Every year, local businesses and restaurants see a boost in foot traffic. Downtown Fairborn is especially excited because it just finished a $2 million renovation project and can't wait to show it off to runners and spectators alike.
Tickets Pub and Eatery in downtown Fairborn is also preparing for a rush. The restaurant, which is located off of Main street, will be increasing its staff Saturday.
"In the past runners and spectators seem to go towards Fairfield Commons," said Christina Gamble, who is a waitress at Tickets Pub and Eatery in downtown Fairborn. "We hope the improvements here (downtown) will attract more people."
Just a few stores down from Tickets is Antiques Consignments and Such. The owner, Scott Preston, says he's only been in business for four months and hopes the marathon will help bring in business.
"If we don't have it, you don't need it," laughs Preston. "I'm looking forward to the marathon coming through town."
