FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Fairborn will soon be home to a public compressed natural gas or CNG facility.

City council members approved a resolution 5-2 Monday evening that will allow Vectren to expand its current private facility on east Dayton Yellow Springs road near Trebein road.

The facility, however, is being met with opposition from Fairborn residents.  Many expressed concerns associated with the station's location, its effects on property values, and potential growth.

Representatives with Vectren stressed CNG is safer than regular fuel, more cost efficient and supports where the industry and state of Ohio are headed.

"We believe this will put Fairborn on the map," said Colleen Ryan, who represented Vectren during the meeting.

Ryan said construction on the facility should begin mid-summer and is expected to be completed by Fall 2013.
