FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - A ribbon cutting took place Monday morning at Wright Patterson Air Force Base to highlight the official opening of the new Gate 1A.
The ribbon cutting signals another milestone toward completion of the state Route 444 project, which will enhance base security while adding such amenities as bicycle lanes to one of the base's main thoroughfares.
Gate 1A was dedicated in remembrance of Airman 1st Class Noah Muonio. He was a radar systems analyst assigned to the National Air and Space Intelligence Center who was struck and killed by a motorist while riding his bicycle to work along state Route 444 August 4, 2012.
With construction moving forward, the new Gate 1A and the former State Route 444 opened for use by base personnel.
