BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) - An 88-year-old man was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital with serious burns after his house went up in flames Wednesday afternoon in Beavercreek.

Firefighters were called to the 1900-block of Winterglen Court after 4 p.m. The first engine on the scene reported seeing heavy fire coming from the garage of the home.

Meanwhile, smoke could be seen billowing into the air from miles away. 2 NEWS’ Jackie Sprague spotted the plume from Interstate 75.

Neighbors tell 2 NEWS they heard an explosion and ran out to discover the house was engulfed in flames.  Firefighters say the loud noise was a fuel tank and tires exploding inside the garage.

Neighbors identify the homeowner as Clifton Fair.  Investigators say the homeowner was found lying unconscious on the garage floor.

No one else was hurt.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.

A neighboring home also received some minor damage.
