DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton city leaders want to know if a four year effort to reduce gun violence is working.

They enlisted researchers at Wright State University Wednesday to find the answer.

"To have them look at and validate at least what we're seeing, a reduction of gun violence within this unique population, in fact it's attributed to this intervention program," said Police Chief Richard Biehl, City of Dayton.

The Community Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence is an ongoing effort in high-risk neighborhoods throughout Montgomery County.

City commission leaders approved a $30,000 contract with Wright State.

Results are expected early next year.
