DARKE Co., Ohio (WDTN) - The Darke County Red Cross is reaching out to residents to provide some relief for those who are unable to manage in the weather with no power after Friday's storms ripped through the area.
Officials said the majority of Union city and New Madison were without power Friday night.
The county has opened two additional cooling centers for residents to cool off and plug in cell phone chargers, oxygen regenerators, weather radios, and other critical items. Residents can go to the EUM Church on Franklin Street in Union City or the Tri-Village Rescue, behind the Dollar General, in New Madison. These cooling centers will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Additional cooling centers will be opened as needed. Residents effected by the heat and humidity can also enjoy a break at their local libraries, park centers, and museums.
