Spfld schools want $1-mil for security

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - The Springfield City Schools want to put a $1-million toward new security measures in school buildings.

The school board met Thursday evening to lay out exactly what that money would buy.  Superintendent, Dr. David Estrop, says the plan is to ask voters to okay using bond money for security measures.

It'll be "a capital plan presented to the voters in May.  It's called a no new mileage bond issue.  There will be no new taxes. we'll keep what we have. It's like refinancing your house," said Dr. Estrop.

Some of the money will buy new security cameras and upgrades cameras already in place, many of which are about seven years old.

Many residents are all for the plan.  "I think it's great.  They should know who everyone is . They know their facility, but they need to know any visitors that come in at all times. There shouldn't be anybody in there that's not supposed to be," said Lynne Ream, Springfield resident.

Springfield's police chief was also on hand to answer parents' questions.
