Spfld air base crew destroys drone

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - We've uncovered some local ties to a predator drone that was intentionally flown into the side of a mountain in Afghanistan.
The drone's crew originated from Springfield Air National Guard Base.
The crew said they were told to crash the drone if it couldn't safely return to the air base overseas.
Officials say it experienced irreversible engine failure back in April.
The Air Force values the loss of just shy of $4-million.
