PIKE TOWNSHIP, CLARK COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) - Rescue crews were called to a crash at the intersection of State Routes 235 and 41 in Clark County's Pike Township around 4:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Ohio State Patrol troopers tell 2 NEWS one person died in the crash between a Ford Contour and a Jeep Cherokee.
Investigators say the Jeep was heading eastbound on SR-41 and when the driver tried to turn north onto SR-235, it hit the Ford traveling westbound on SR-41.
According to investigators, the male driver of the car was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim hasn't been released. The driver of the SUV refused medical treatment. No one else was involved in the crash.
Troopers are investigating whether or not speed was a factor in the crash.
There was another accident that happened after emergency crews arrived on scene. Investigators say a North Hampton Police cruiser was clipped while the officer was directing traffic around the fatal accident. No one was hurt in that crash.
The intersection was closed for several hours while a reconstruction unit investigated the fatal crash.
Troopers say in the past few years, there have been several fatalities at this intersection and there are studies being conducted to try to improve the safety there.
