SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A store owner gave 2 NEWS a video Wednesday showing a violent crime in progress inside his store.

The surveillance video showed the robber entering the Valero gas station on the 2000 block of East Main Street in Springfield.

Springfield police said the suspect wore a ski mask, black vest, pants and a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Authorities said the suspect forced the cashier to open the register and started kicking and punching him.

The video showed the robber pinning the cashier under the cash register.

Authorities said the cashier tried to run away, but the robber grabbed him from behind, picking him up and slamming him to the ground.

Moments later, the robber ran out of the store with money and lottery tickets.

Owner Ruby Singh said he's very upset with what he saw in the footage.  "Take the money.  Why you beat him up?" said Singh.

Singh said the robber made off with $200 and a handful of lottery tickets.

Authorities said the cashier had some cuts and bruises but otherwise appears to be fine.

Singh said he has owned the Valero gas station for eight years and considers the area pretty safe.

He said his gas station was robbed about a month ago.
