SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A special "Hometown Hero's Salute" ceremony was held at the Springfield Air National Guard Base Sunday morning.

The program welcomed home returning airmen and honored all 178 Fighter Wing service members who have deployed for 30 or more consecutive days after September 11, 2001 in support of contingency operations.

Since September 11, 2001, 529 178th Fighter Wing personnel have deployed for 30 or more consecutive days.

"Our state's servce members play an integral role in keeping our country safe and responding to state and national emergencies," U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) said. "Ohio's service members, who put their lives on the line for their nation, have earned our respect and deep gratitude. I join their loved ones and all Ohioans in welcoming them back. I will continue working to ensure that these brave men and women also receive the benefits and care they have so richly earned."
