Grammy award winning singer comes to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - Singer and songwriter Vaughn Anthony said the Springfield YMCA is like a second home.

"I always came to the Y as a little child.  My patents always took us to the Y.   I am familiar with the Y," said Anthony.

Anthony said he wants every child to have the same opportunities he had at the YMCA because it had a huge impact on his life.  Anthony and his brother Grammy Award winning recording artist John Legend are putting on a benefit concert at Springfield High School.

"The kids are our future, and if we don't invest into the future then we are in trouble.  We need to be great examples as leaders  for the children," said Anthony.

The pair are hoping to raise money to fix the ceiling in basketball gym, and raise money for the YMCA's  basketball and football camps.

"Me being from Springfield it makes me feel like its a call to action for us to do something to help improve Springfield.  That's why I'm here," said Anthony.

There are only 2,200 tickets up for grabs. They cost 20 dollars each.  That's a small price Anthony believes will make a huge impact in the lives of so many children in the community.

"Basically take the baby steps to get the city involved and bringing it to the awareness. Basically challenge the people in the community.  Instead of investing in some Michael Jordan shoes, lets invest onto the city," said Anthony.
