Gov. Kasich honors Wittenberg team

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) - The Wittenberg University men’s basketball team was honored by Ohio Governor  John R. Kasich during a reception held at the Governor’s Residence on Tuesday afternoon. 

Several members of the Wittenberg team and coaching staff attended the event.  With its trip to the NCAA Division III semifinals, the Wittenberg Tigers were one of eight Ohio teams advancing to the “Sweet 16” in their respective tournament.  

Serving as emcee for the event was special guest Clark Kellogg, an Ohio State University basketball legend, OSU board member and CBS basketball announcer.

In March 2012, Ohio became the first state in NCAA basketball tournament history to send four teams-the Ohio State University, Ohio University, Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati-to the Men's Division 1 “Sweet 16.”  In addition, the Men’s Division III basketball teams from Wittenberg University and the College of Wooster, as well as women's basketball teams from Ashland University (Division II) and the University of Mount Union (Division III) all advanced to or beyond the “Sweet 16” during the 2011-12 season.
