SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - On Monday night, the city of Springfield breathed new life into the historic building formerly known as Springfield South High School.
In a crowded ceremony that featured students, parents, Springfield Superintendent Dr. David Estrop talked about the opening of the new Global Impact STEM Academy.
The Springfield STEM project has been a work in progress for over a year. The idea began when local leaders saw a need for matching workforce training with job requirements of employers in the Agriculture, fiber, and fuel industries.
State Senator Chris Widener also spoke at the event saying 1 in 7 Ohio jobs are in the Agriculture and food science industry, and development of the new Global Impact STEM Academy is needed.
The Global Impact STEM Academy is scheduled to open for classes in the fall of 2013. It will be the first school of its kind in the state of Ohio and the second of its kind in the country.
