Deputy arrested at Springfield drive-thru

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A Clark County Sheriff's deputy, who was arrested Saturday in Springfield, had his bond revoked at his arraignment Monday and was sent back to jail.

Deputy Christopher Dent is charged with having a weapon while intoxicated.

Springfield police say a Chevy Tahoe, which Dent was a passenger in, blocked the drive thru at a Marathon Station on South Yellow Springs St. Saturday afternoon for about half an hour.

According to the police report, Dent had taken the keys during an argument with the driver.

The report goes on to say Dent was drunk enough he couldn't stand and that he had a loaded gun on him. The gun has been identified as the one that Dent uses in his duties as a deputy.

"Just as with many businesses, we have employees who do not adhere to our standards of conduct," says Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly. "For those violations there are serious consequences."

Sheriff Kelly couldn't answer our questions about Dent specifically because the union contract forbids it.

All he could say is that an internal investigation is being conducted into a deputy's actions.

"The public has an expectation if we are to enforce the law we should obey the law," Kelly says.

2 NEWS has learned that Dent has been in trouble before. He pleaded guilty to a disorderly charge back in 2002.

2 NEWS has requested Dent's personnel file but we're told that won't be available until Tuesday.

The Sheriff says it's not determined yet what will happen to the deputy while the investigation is conducted.
