Crash victim's memory shines at 'pink out'

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio ((WDTN) - Friends and family gathered Tuesday evening to remember a teenager killed in a weekend crash.

Cady Reed, 18, was killed Sunday, December 2 in a crash on Selma Pike near Old Springfield Road in Clark County.

Her loved ones gathered at her alma mater, Northeastern High School.

"Cady was a light that shined.  If you ever met her, you would never forget her. She was one special individual that really shined," said Debbie Summerfield.

Inside, a basketball game was taking place, but everyone in the gym was thinking of Cady.

Fans could buy raffle tickets, grab some cookies and ribbons, all to help with funeral expenses.

"It's been overwhelming. Somebody would get a ribbon and put $20.00 in, so we're thrilled," said Summerfield.

Northeastern's principal says it's been a tough week for students.

"I never had to go through this as a principal before, but I know our yesterday's school was so rough on us and today they wanted to plan on doing something visible," said Chris James, Principal.

That something visible is all in shades of pink, Cady's favorite color.  It was everywhere in that gym, a virtual "pink out" if you will.  Even, a huge boulder outside of the school is painted pink.

People left the gym after the game to take part in a vigil in Cady's memory.

Cady was from South Vienna.  She was a freshman at Urbana University when the crash happened.

Trooper say she went left of center and struck an oncoming car.
