BETHEL TWP., Ohio (WDTN) - Three Tecumesh High School students were taken to the hospital Tuesday after they took cough medicine in an attempt to get high while at school.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office reports its deputies were called to the school just after 10 a.m. The first deputy to arrive at the school learned additional students were under the influence.

Deputies report the medicine, known as “Triple C’s,” or Coricidin Cold & Cough, is used to treat coughs but is often misused in an attempt to get high.

Medics were called to the school to evaluate the students. Deputies report they became concerned when one of the students passed out while walking to the ambulance.

The students were taken to Dayton Children’s Medical Center for further evaluation and are receiving precautionary treatment.

The students were charged with abusing harmful intoxicants and inducing panic.
