SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) - A Springfield woman pled not guilty to charges after a confrontation with Clark County Sheriff's deputies ended with her being subdued with a stun gun.

Deputies were sent to 3834 Dayton Road around 1:30 Friday morning on the report that Verna L. Napier, 38, may be suicidal and was threatening to harm her mother.

While deputies were speaking to Napier, she tried to barricade herself in a bedroom. Deputies said during the confrontation with Napier, she kicked and punched one deputy several times. That's when another deputy used his X26 Taser to take her into custody.

Napier's mother denied that she was ever threatened or placed in jeopardy by Napier, but deputies said they did find evidence indicating Napier was in mental distress.

Napier was arraigned in Clark County Municipal Court on charges of assault on  police office, resisting arrest, and obstructing official business.
