SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - The National Transportation Safety Board closed its investigation into a deadly plane crash involving a replica Wright B Flyer.

Investigators conclude that Mitchell Cary and Don Gum failed to maintain control after losing engine power.  A faulty weld on the left propeller shaft also played a role.

The pilots crashed in July 2011 near South Pitchin Road just outside of Springfield.

At the time, we were told they were testing a new plane called The Silver Bird.

Witnesses said the aircraft spiraled to the ground.  Both men were killed on impact.
