SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A Springfield man faces burglary and child endangering charges after fleeing from police with his girlfriend's child along for the ride.

Springfield police say the incident started with a burglary call around 2:00 pm in the 1800 block of North Broadway Street. They received a call that someone stole guns from a home and left in a pickup truck.

Police spotted the truck and ended up chasing it to a home on Montgomery Avenue.

Police say the man ran inside with the child in tow and wouldn't come out. The SWAT team was called in to negotiate.

It took the suspect's mother to finally convince him to turn the child over to authorities after about an hour and a half.

Brandon Smith is now in the Clark County Jail on burglary and child endangering charges.
