NORTHRIDGE, Ohio (WDTN) - Officials at the Northeastern local school district wanted ideas from the community, before it was too late.

At stake was $46 million in state funding. The district would lose that money if they could not get voters to approve a new school construction or renovation levy by August.

Officials pleaded to the community for help. The money would help them replace or renovate old, overcrowded, and in some cases dangerous school buildings that were in violation of state health and safety standards.

Voters rejected the levy in the last two elections. So the district wanted to ask them, what it would take to get the levy passed in the next election.

They had been soliciting suggestions, and were open to all options.

"There's every option from renovations, to segmenting our projects, to replacing all buildings with new buildings," said Superintendant Rick Broderick.

At this point the millage was undetermined. Officials said the amount voters would pay depended on which plan they chose to put on the ballot.

Residents were invited to a board work session that took place on Thursday night at 6 PM at Northeastern High School.

School officials said they would present all the ideas they had, and let residents vote for their favorite one.

No decisions would be made on Thursday night. The board would make a final decision sometime next month.
