NEW CARLISLE, Ohio (WDTN) - Time is running out for the Tecumseh YMCA. The sign outside the building reads "Save the YMCA" It is a plea to the public to keep it open.
The YMCA will have to close its doors December 23, 2009 if members can't raise $175,000 in the next couple of weeks. It is a big goal, but the Tecumseh YMCA childrens swim team is up for the challenge.
"Our hopes are we'll keep pushing through this and raise enough
money to stay open." Said swim coach Sheli Randall.
The team is holding swim-a- thons, getting sponsors, and
selling t-shirts to save their pool, and the building.
"This swim team means so much to us." Said swimmer Hayley
Estes.
Ironically, it was the aquatic portion of the the YMCA that set
the non profit back a few years ago. The debt has been mounting and
it now faces foreclosure.
Its a devastating thought to Kathy Bame who started working
out at the YMCA two years ago.
"At that time, I weighed over 300 pounds and could barely
walk."
Kathy lost over 120 pounds and said the therapy and lap pools
saved her life.
"The Y has been a Godsend."
You can make a donation by filing out a pledge card at the
YMCA located at 524 N Dayton Lakeview Road in New Carlisle.
