CHAMPAIGN CO., Ohio (WDTN) - A semi truck driver is alive right now thanks to the quick action of a good samaritan.

A semi truck caught fire after it crashed on State Route 4 in Champaign County late Monday night.

Charlie Moore heard the thud and jumped out bed.

He made his way to the scene and knew he had to help.

You can hear him telling a 911 dispatcher how he dragged the victim safely away from the burning wreckage.

"I heard a real solid thud that vibrated my bed.  Of course,  I live right down the street from where it happened," said Charlie Moore, good samaritan.

He told his story exclusively to 2 NEWS Tuesday afternoon.

"When I looked around and seen him moving his head around I knew he was still alive and had to get him out of there and get him to safety."

Charlie knew time was not on his side.  "We just stop into instinct you want  to survive and you know that man wants to and survive and go home and that's what I was hoping, so I just helped him get out of the bank and drug him away from the burning semi with in a matter of moments it was gone.  It was up in flames."

The semi driver, Gary Brunk, was taken by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital was he was listed in fair condition late Tuesday afternoon.  He was released Tuesday evening.

Would Charlie do it all again?  "Oh yeah. In a heart beat.  You just don't think about things like that you just do it. It's natural."
