DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A man accused of domestic violence surrendered to police early Friday morning after an eight hour long standoff.

Pedro Guinden, Jr., 31, came out with his hands up and slowly backed down a hill in front of a house in the 27-hundred block of Smithville Road around 4 A.M. Police quickly handcuffed him and took him to the Montgomery County Jail.

Authorities say Guinden assaulted his girlfriend and later threatened to kill her. Police then went to the house where they thought he was around 8 P.M. on Thursday. They couldn't make contact with him or get him to come out so SWAT was called in and the neighbors told to leave or stay inside their homes. A section of Smithville Road was also shut down and traffic rerouted.

SWAT used flash bangs and a loud speaker to try to get Guinden to come outside. Finally, just before 4 A.M. they shot 4 pepper balls into the bedroom of the house. Guinden surrendered moments later.

Police say he'll likely be charged with aggravated menacing and inducing panic.
