DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton Police have released video of an off-duty Oakwood police officer assaulting a man.

In the surveillance video from the Rite Aid in the 1100 block of Wilmington Avenue, you can see Officer John McCallister arguing with a man and then taking a swing at him. The man landed on the ground.

According to the Dayton police report, the man had asked for change.

The report goes onto to say McCallister advised his wife to go to the car and the get the phone and gun.

Oakwood's public safety director Alex Bebris said he knows there are two sides to every story and he's very interested in speaking with the McCallisters.

"On the surface, like I said, I find the video disturbing. It's troubling to me. I think it's troubling to all law enforcement officers that people could potentially view us, people in our profession that way, because that's not how we operate our departments, that's not how we live our lives," Bebris said.

McCallister and his wife Tiffany, who is also with the Oakwood police department, are on administrative leave.

In addition to any disciplinary action that might be taken by the Oakwood Police department, McCallister faces a criminal charge in the October 14 assault.
