SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A Springfield man was taken to jail, kicking and screaming, after an being caught as the suspect in a Clark County break-in.
Police said Shane Demetrius Radcliff and another man smashed through the glass doors of Patton Power Equipment at 2400 Mechanicsburg Road June 29 and grabbed about $6,500 worth of power tools. They were gone in about 60 seconds, but not before neighbors reported the burglary and called in a vehicle description.
A Springfield police officer spotted the vehicle at about 2 a.m., and after a short chase, Radcliff crashed behind Catholic Central High School at 1200 High Street, where both men ran.
Police traced the vehicle to Radcliff's girlfriend, who helped lead them to their suspect. Radcliff was arrested at his girlfriend's apartment on Limestone Street late Monday afternoon.
It was shortly after that when Radcliff was dragged, literally kicking and screaming into the Clark County jail.
Police said Radcliff was the same man who led them on a dangerous high speed chase through Clark and Madison counties earlier in June while driving a rental truck. Authorities said the back of that truck was filled with merchandise stolen from a Springfield Lowe's store. Radcliff posted $1,500 bond for that crime and was released from jail on June 11th.
Radcliff, 34, is now charged with breaking and entering and felony vandalism.
Polcie are still looking for the second suspect.
