DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The cold weather here in the Miami Valley can cause problems for people, pets and homes. When temperatures and wind chills dip below freezing, check on people and the elderly.
A 5 below wind chill can damage exposed skin in less than an
hour.
"Any exposed skin, nose lips, ears, hands, can all be
chill-injured. They can be frozen and the most important thing is
to cover up and protect yourself so your skin doesn't dry out and
doesn't get cold." Said Kettering physician Dr. Martha
Johnston.
Our four-legged friends are also being hit by the cold weather, despite their fur coat. All pets should be kept indoors.
And officials said watch for frozen pipes that could cause water damage later. It is important to know where your main water valve shut off is located in case of an emergency.
