INDIANAPOLIS, In (WDTN) - The flu is taking a deadly toll in Indiana.
State health officials confirm that seven people have died in the state so far. They consider this year to be one of the worst in several years.
Officials say the illness is spreading across Indiana sooner than usual this year.
Doctors say the flu circulating now is an H3N2 virus that tends to be more severe than other influenzas.
A weekly health department report says five of those who died were older than 65 and two were under 18.
Doctors say it is not too late to get a flu shot. People develop immunity about two weeks after receiving the vaccine.
