EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is encouraging southern Indiana residents to voice their opinions to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission about how they want a new area code to be implemented.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/Zd1QfO ) the IURC will decide later this year whether to divide the 812 area code into two geographic areas or to create an overlay inside the 812 area code where new phones would get the new area code. The North American Numbering Plan Administration predicts the 812 area code will run out of phone numbers by March 2015.
The IURC is holding 10 public hearings on the issue. The hearing 6 p.m. Tuesday in Evansville will be held at Washington Middle School.
