WHITING, Ind. (AP) — A boardwalk, bike path and fishing pier will shape through July on the lakefront in the Lake County city of Whiting.
Whiting Economic Development Director Bob Kark tells The Times of Munster (http://bit.ly/13ylYxv ) the improvements are being funded in part by a nearly $20 million grant from the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority.
Kark says support pilings for the 300-foot fishing pier were installed last year and the deck will be finished after Lake Michigan thaws. Approximately 150 feet of the pier will extend over the lake to a water depth of about 17 feet.
Kark says the city also hopes to attract a restaurant to the lakefront.
