INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police say they'll tow abandoned vehicles from interstate highways in the Indianapolis district before a winter storm starts dumping snow on the area
Indianapolis State Police Indianapolis Post commander Lt. Jon Smithers said towing would begin Tuesday afternoon.
Smithers says abandoned vehicles on the interstate system during snow and icy conditions present a safety hazard for the motoring public and snow plow drivers. He says towing the abandoned vehicles removes an obstacle that the motoring public could crash into or a plow driver has to work around during inclement weather.
The Indianapolis district includes Marion County and most of the counties adjacent to it.
State police say motorists can check Indiana road conditions by calling 1- 800-261-7623 or visiting the Indiana Department of Transportation website at www.trafficwise.gov.
