GARY, Ind. (AP) — A northwest Indiana school was placed on lockdown briefly after a security guard reported his gun was missing, but then remembered he had left it at home.

Gary Community School Corp. spokeswoman Charmella Greer tells The Times of Munster (http://bit.ly/WHkDjT ) a school security officer at Lew Wallace STEM Academy in Gary realized he didn't have his weapon after responding to a report of a fight. Greer says the discovery was not related to the fight.

Greer says the principal decided to lock the school down because of concerns about the weapon.

Greer said the officer left the building and went home to get his weapon. She says the lockdown Thursday lasted about 20 minutes.
